Dreamcatcher United Kingdom

Introduction

Dreamcatcher United Kingdom is an organisation with charitable status. We draw on the best practice model developed over 25 years in South Africa: to engage residents of economically depressed groups of individuals in the United Kingdom, of which mostly, but not exclusively women and youth.

Our initiatives in the United Kingdom will be geared to local circumstances which will work best to achieve our goals, which are:

A Dreamcatcher tourist visit to a country entails that they connect with the locals of the land at grass roots, in mind blowing, interpersonal contact experiences, for a day, overnight or half a day. This allows them to become self-sufficient and not rely on Government and aide indefinitely and to builds bridges of universal understanding between visitors and the locals.

Representing many vibrant and diverse cultures, visitors to the United Kingdom will soon enjoy authentic intra-cultural contact, home from home accommodation comforts at our branded Dreamcatcher Homestays with Kamamma, (mothers) at prices that won't break the bank. Traditional cuisine experiences, where fresh food, lovingly cooked especially for the visitor, will also soon be prepared from only the freshest produce: offering the visitor an exciting kaleidoscope of traditional food, proudly offered by many different cultures who live in communities across the United Kingdom.

Dreamcatcher offers a sustainable solution to unemployment and the social problems commensurate with loss of income which impacts negatively on the ability of an individual to care for themselves and their family; poverty; lack of self-esteem and knowledge.

Our projects entail addressing the barriers to lack of tourism business access opportunities, mentoring in the identified communities, knowledge, awareness and skills transfer. This includes the effective management of the impact of waste and energy consumption in their local communities, and specifically at the tourism micro businesses.

The principles and ethos developed by the founder of Dreamcatcher South Africa, during the Apartheid years in 1984, when Mr. Nelson Mandela was still imprisoned, are basically the same as the later agreed 8 Millennium 2000 Charter Goals 2000 and those of the 2002 Sustainable Tourism Convention held in Cape Town. They also hold true for the United Kingdom.

Dreamcatcher UK supports various poverty alleviation and skills transfer projects currently run by Dreamcatcher South Africa.

A current rewarding project is to manage an exciting competition run by Dreamcatcher South Africa to recruit a volunteer from the UK for 6 months or a year, to live and volunteer on the Dreamcatcher projects in South Africa in 2010/2011. The flights and accommodation will be sponsored by Dreamcatcher South Africa and cooperating partners.

After this stint in South Africa, the winning volunteer, will have gained significant knowledge and skills in working in a multi-cultural environment at grass routes across South Africa. These skills gained, could be used in community work back in the United Kingdom and offer a very good accolade to a future CV of such a winning volunteer. Our motto is: "walk the talk, put an end to aid without end, and bring about lasting dignity and peace", by building partnerships internationally and imploding the benefits locally.

We invite you to walk with us. Welcome!
